What if…our vehicles can act as our companions + beacons?

What if…there was some way I can always be led back to my beacon no matter how lost I was?

[Northstar] is a work-in-progress idea for adventurists.

Primary behavior | Guide home.
Connected to your vehicle (which serves as your beacon), the device will use light to guide you back “home.” Upon reuniting, Northstar celebrates with you by using all three light sources to glow vibrantly.

Secondary behavior | Digital trail marker.
Select a basic pattern through squeezes and lights and Northstar will play the pattern back to you when you pass the coordinate again.

Tertiary behavior | Emergency SOS signal.
Hold down both diamond lights to send a signal to your connected vehicle, which will then send out a notification to your emergency contact with coordinate for help.

Form factor, interaction, and experience exploration are just beginning to scratch the surface, but inspiration for the direction comes from a compass needle point. Prototype will be printed in three parts, one being the clear inner shell and a snap-together two-piece outer, opaque shell.

[What] Ripple turns love letters into beautiful sound bytes.

Person A sends a message, and Person B receives a beautiful audio file that was informed by the pitches of the original message.

[Point of View] Relationships can be strengthened by intent.
Talking is easy, listening is hard.

[Why] Sometimes, it doesn’t matter what specific things were said, but it’s the fact that you took the time to say it in the first place. Ripple is inspired by intent made between people that wish to send love to each other. By creating beautiful and musical tones out of the message, the listener can appreciate the message for how it is, not what it is.

[Next Steps] Define exact form factor, model, and develop final scenario storyboard. Parts list being gathered.

[What] Tilde converts car data into ambient soundscapes for sleep.

[Point of View] There is something soothing about driving that makes us somewhat really sleepy. What if we could convert our driving patterns into a custom soundscape that we use to help fall asleep?

Concept for 2016 Nitto Offroad Tire Challenge — 2nd place

Some remain as work in progress as they are a part of a continuous concept / scenario, while others are just one-off storyboarding, sketches, drawings, and thoughts.

Goal was to introduce Amazon Echo integration with 2018 Edge vehicle for the holiday season.
